Anthony Mackie goes from Captain America to movie/TV studio builder


Anthony Mackie is being hailed as a superhero in the New Orleans area as he tries to boost the southern state’s booming movie industry. The actor would build a film and television studio on 20 acres of land. reports that Mackie purchased the land near the Little Woods neighborhood, a move that will help the state of Louisiana “cultivate a film and television industry with opportunities to acquire, develop, produce, and market Intellectual Property”, The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Lawyer States.

Mackie’s love of producing sparked this monumental decision, and he already has several production credits under his belt, including The banker and off the wire. Could this new Anthony Mackie-led studio see the actor/producer move upcoming productions like twisted metal and Captain America 4 to the region? The move could shift the landscape of American film production outside of the Hollywood and Atlanta areas.

Councilman Oliver Thomas explained how this studio will help the city, saying, “Years ago we talked about ourselves being Hollywood South. I think we may finally be able to make that happen and have New Orleans East be the base for that to happen. Having Captain America and his brand and his star power, I think that helps support all the other investments.

As of this writing, Mackie’s studio has yet to be named. The actor is currently filming desert warrior from director Rupert Wyatt, which stars Ben Kingsley, Sharlto Copley and Aiysha Hart.
