D23 Expo: surprises and revelations for Marvel Studios at D23 Studio Showcase

Matt Shakman officially named Fantastic Four director

Now rumors have been circulating about The Fantastic Four and what they would reveal at the Marvel Studios D23 presentation. A series of rumors said they would reveal the cast and director to D23. Unfortunately, only half of these rumors were true. Kevin Feige announced that Matt Shakman (Wanda Vision) would be the director guiding Marvel’s First Family into the MCU. Unfortunately, no further information was given on the future of the fantastic four. However, finding a director is still a step in the right direction.

Loki: Season 2

Ke Huy Quan joins the cast of Loki Season 2

Although Loki is filming its new season, that doesn’t mean they don’t have anything to show or announce at Marvel Studios’ D23 presentation this year. Today it was announced that Ke Huy Quan (Everything everywhere all at once) joins the cast in an undisclosed role. However, based on the footage shown to D23, it looks like Quan would be playing some sort of accountant or quartermaster. In the footage, Loki and Mobius visit Quan’s character as he drops something on a desk in front of them.

Additionally, Loki reveals that Kang the Conqueror has taken control of TVA. In one scene, Loki uses a Time Stick to carve a wall, which reveals a golden bas-relief of Kang. Additionally, Ravonna (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) is also making a comeback in the new season.

Armor Wars

Armor Wars is back on the menu, boys

When Marvel Studios revealed the Multiverse Saga lineup at Comic-Con this year, one notable missing title was Armor Wars. The previously announced series was absent from the phase four through six reveal, leading fans to believe that the series had been cancelled. However, Armor Wars Showrunner Yassir Lester took to social media to quell the rumors, saying, “I promise it’s still coming out.”

Now, Armor Wars is back on the menu, boys. After Don Cheadle took the stage to help announce Secret Invasionhe stayed on stage to announce Armor Wars. Feige revealed that Secret Invasion will lead directly to Armor Wars. Also, they stated that the filming for the series will start next year and it will be a six-episode series.

Other than that, no other information was given. However, with the series beginning filming next year, we hope to find more information at Comic-Con next year.

Stone heart

Magic versus technology at the heart of Stone heart

Although there were many rumors that the Disney+ project that Ryan Coogler was working on was a series around Okoye, it turns out that the series is actually Stone heart.

Combat magic versus technology will be at the forefront of the series. This notable battle of opposing forces has always been a constant struggle in the Iron Man comics. You have Tony Stark, technological genius and billionaire (also playboy and philanthropist), and on the magic side, you have the Mandarin and his ten rings. While that’s been a constant in the comics, it’s never been explored in the MCU…until now.

Anthony Ramos (In the heights) plays The Hood, a villain with a magical cape originally from Dormammu. On the other hand, Riri Williams is a young tech genius who likes to build, just like Tony Stark. So the battle between technology and magic is going to be something I’m going to fanboy about (as a huge Iron Man fan, that is).

Carol, Kamala and Monica are teleportation sisters in First wonders Pictures

To close out the Marvel Studios presentation, Kevin Feige provided the first look at Wonders. If you saw the post-credits scene of Ms. Marvelyou saw Kamala Khan get shot in her closet, and Carol Danvers appears instead.

Well, it turns out that the whole concept of “body switching” is a main part of the storyline. The sequence begins with Monica Rambeau in space looking at a space anomaly with Nick Fury watching from the SABER space station. However, once Monica makes contact with her, she blows herself up. Next thing we know is Kamala in the spacesuit and not Monica. Of course, being the fangirl that she is, she’s totally nuts to see Nick Fury in space.

The dynamic of Carol, Kamala, and Monica using their powers to teleport or swap locations leads to some hilarious and cool sequences.

Echo returns to its roots

With the filming of Echo done, Marvel Studios has previewed some footage from the upcoming Disney+ series. The preview takes Echo back to his hometown and features lots of Native American imagery and Echo kicking a lot. The sequence ends with the return of Kingpin, who wears an eye patch made of gauze bandages.

Echo features a mostly Native American cast, with Zahn McClarnon playing Lopez’s father, William. The series also stars Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Devery Jacobs, Cody Lightning and the great Graham Greene.

Captain America: New World Order

The boss is back Captain America: New World Order

As we discovered at the end of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sam “Falcon” Wilson has taken on the heavy burden of taking on the role of Captain America. Now Anthony Mackie is headlining his own movie as Sentinel of Freedom in Captain America: New World Order. While details about the film are being kept under wraps, Feige revealed some information about the film during their . First, Shira Haas was cast as Sabra, a mutant in comics. No word if she’ll be a mutant in the film, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed.

Next, Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly) and Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez) will return in Captain America: New world order. Finally, Tim Blake Nelson is returning to the MCU as the lead. Although he’s usually a Hulk villain, it’s good to see another character from The Incredible Hulk back to the MCU.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Ant-Man and the Wasp go dark

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania also made an appearance at the Marvel Studios presentation this year. Although the images are similar to Comic-Con images, there are a few differences. First, the images show more of the sponsorship opportunities that Scott Lang received after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Plus, we find out that Cassie Lang’s research into the quantum realm is what ultimately brings our heroes into the quantum realm.

Cassie has built a device that looks like a two-way radio between our world and the Quantum Realm. Hearing this, Janet van Dyne tells Cassie to turn off the device. Stop it quickly. Unfortunately, it was too late. They are sucked into the quantum realm.

Finally, we see why Kang is the new big bad after Thanos. “I’m an Avenger,” says Scott Lang. “Have I ever killed you?” After so many times, everything just blends in,” Kang replies. Also, he wants Scott to steal something for him – something Cassie doesn’t want him to steal. However, this displeases Kang and uses his powers to lift Scott up and push him against the wall. He hurts Scott like no one has before in all of his appearances.

Daredevil: Born Again

Daredevil starts reborn next year

Charlie Cox made a brief stage appearance alongside Vincent D’Onofrio during the D23 Marvel Studios panel. The series will start filming next year, and this is all the information they have given about the series.

Feige did, however, give audiences a first look at Daredevil’s cameo in the upcoming episode of She-Hulk: Lawyer. Those worried about Marvel Studios lighting up the character to fit the “light” brand will be happy to hear that even in a comedy show like She-Hulk Daredevil is still on the same tone as the Netflix show. It’s Jennifer Walters who’s funny, not Matt Murdock.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Protect Wakanda at all costs after the death of King T’Challa

This was strongly hinted at in the first trailer, and we got confirmation that T’Challa, played by the irreplaceable Chadwick Boseman, will be dead in the sequel. However, writer/director Ryan Coogler took his death and used it to inspire the rise of those in Wakanda. In the story, the Wakandans must fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers who covet their rich supply of vibranium in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. Of course, these countries would also include the Kingdom of Atlantis.
