Hideo Kojima addressed recent speculation and rumors of companies bidding on his studio, Kojima Productions. Hideo Kojima is one of the most innovative and renowned game creators. His games are always incredibly unique and original and while they don’t always resonate with everyone, they are commercially viable. Many of its games sell quite well and are almost always critical darlings, so it’s no surprise that it’s a hot commodity. Kojima has teamed up with PlayStation for Death Stranding just a few months after leaving Konami and he also made a pact with Xbox for an unknown cloud-based game. He is friendly with everyone and seems like he wants that to continue.

Speaking on his Spotify podcast, Structure of the brain (Going through PlayStation Lifestyle), Hideo Kojima confirmed that he had been approached to be acquired, but rejected the offers. He noted that the offers were “ridiculously high”, but prefers to remain independent and does not see himself accepting deals of this nature in the future. Some thought Hideo Kojima might accept an offer from PlayStation to become an owner, but it looks like that won’t happen.

“Let me repeat that we are independents,” Kojima said. “We have no affiliations and we’re not endorsed by anyone. And every day I’m approached by offers all over the world to buy our studio. Some of those offers are ridiculously high prices, but that’s not that I want money. I want to do what I want to do. That’s why I started this studio. As long as I’m alive, I don’t think I’ll ever accept these offers.

It seems that Kojima is happy to do partnerships, but wants to stay independent so he can do whatever he wants. Given what happened with Konami, it’s understandable that he wants to be his own boss. He also aspires to make movies and other things outside of games, which may be harder to do if he was on Xbox or PlayStation.
