Working from home is not easy. And this is especially true if, like me, you live in a very small apartment.

I live in a studio in New York. I sleep, work, and eat in the same room every day, so once 2020 hit and my favorite fitness studios closed, I had to find a way to maintain my workout routine at home. And after almost two years of training at home, I think I finally have the setup in place.

I prefer to do low impact workouts like yoga and Pilates so quality, minimal and compact equipment is what I have found to be the key to getting a good workout and not having to rearrange my apartment to do it . Below, check out the six essentials I get every time I workout at home.

1. Melissa Wood Health subscription, $ 9.99 / month or $ 99 / year

When I stopped going to group lessons I knew I had to find a good program online with a teacher who inspired me. Melissa Wood Tepperberg is the genius behind the MWH method, and her program involves creating long, thin lines. Its subscription is very affordable, in my opinion, and gives you access to over 250 workouts ranging from a few minutes to over 45 minutes. Additionally, Melissa also encourages righteousness and emphasizes that inner peace is the key to a busy life. Her meditations are amazing and her energy is contagious.

2. Bala Bangles 1lb weight, $ 49

These aesthetic weights are all over social media because they are classy, but I’m here to tell you that they are amazing in terms of quality as well. Available in a ton of different colors, these weights can be worn on your ankles or wrists and are the perfect way to amp up any workout or daily activity. Wear them when doing leg lifts, on a walk or when doing laundry!

3. Portzon Set of 2 neoprene dumbbell weights, $ 19.21 Orig. $ 20.99

When I’m looking to add more weight or focus on my arms, I put on those 5 pound weights that I got on Amazon. Although they are basic, they are exactly what I need. They have a non-slip coating, are super easy to store, and cost less than $ 20.

4. Manduka x 5mm yoga mat, $ 65

As most of my workouts take place on the floor, a good yoga mat is absolutely essential. Manduka is the brand that my favorite yoga studio in New York uses so I knew I’d be happy to buy one of their yoga mats for myself. This mat is 71 inches long and is thick enough that I am comfortable working on hardwood floors.

5. Bala exercise sliders, $ 20

If you are looking to really target your abs, I highly recommend purchasing these Bala exercise sliders. Use these if you’re looking to step up anything from push-ups to lunges or squats. One side of the slider is a smooth plastic that glides easily on the floor, while the other contains padded, non-slip material.

6. Container Store Medium Montauk Rattan Rectangular Bin Natural, $ 24.99

Since my apartment isn’t big enough to leave out my workout essentials, I rely on a cute woven basket to help me put everything away (minus the yoga mat – which tucks away in a closet!). The Container Store has every type of bin imaginable, but this one is minimal, sturdy, and the perfect size for me.
