Kevin Augustin opens a studio in Stoughton

STOUGHTON — Photographers have the ability to make simple moments last forever. Kevin Augustin, 35, a self-taught photographer, found this passion by picking up a camera and believing in it.

Augustin’s photographic journey began in 2012 when he bought a simple DSLR camera and started manipulating images.

Now the budding artist has a studio in Stoughton to take on projects from his wildest imagination.

The best part of being a photographer is exploring your unique vision through a lens, Augustin said.

The photographer has an eye for out-of-the-box shots. It can recreate any idea a client may wish, from flowing colored smoke to maternity sessions on a swing. It has everything, even the accessories.

“Being a self-taught photographer is something I’m proud of. I had the vision to go far, but I didn’t have the right tools, but as I got older I was able to get them,” Augustin said.

When Augustin isn’t doing freelance photography, he works full-time as a teacher’s aide in the Rockland School District.

This work gives the artist the ability to influence young people through art and creativity, said Augustin.

Since Kyro was a baby, Augustin has been organizing different thematic shoots for his son. As a result, his passion for photography grew, as did his skills.

Over time, Augustine reached out to several successful people in his field for feedback.

“I never went to photography school, so everything I learned I learned by trial and error. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. In all honesty, you have to practice every day. I learned that during this process,” Augustin said.

With the helpful guidance, Augustin started practicing and eventually got better over time.

So far, Augustin has grown his professional Instagram page kevinaphotography to over 5,600 followers. He uses the platform to post his art while gaining more customers by promoting his page.

Since 2012, he has gained hundreds of clients and continues to expand his portfolio.

Augustin’s end goal is to pursue his art full-time while influencing the next generation of kids to become entrepreneurs who follow their true artistic passions.

“The ability to freeze time and rewind to look at it in photos is what gets me out of bed every day. Photos capture memories that you can relive by looking at them. It’s worth it,” said Augustine.
