KRK KNS 6402

The first thing to note about the KNS 6402 headphones is that they are not designed to be mainstream headphones like Beats or the Sony WH-1000XM4. They are not Bluetooth compatible and they do not have active noise canceling or bass boosting functions. The KNS 6402 Headphones are professional-grade studio headphones used by producers for detailed audio editing, mixing and mastering.

If we haven’t scared you, then you’ve come to the right place. The KRK KNS 6402 headphones are very affordable at $ 99, and it’s amazing how well these cans perform at this price. Made with impact-resistant black plastic, the unpretentious KNS 6402 looks with a closed-ear design, with highly insulated surround pads that allow you to immerse yourself in the sound without your monitor mix ‘s’ s. escapes’ into open microphones and keeps live instruments out of what you are monitoring.

Designed for comfort during extended sessions, the acoustic cellular foam ear pads fit snugly, without pressing too hard on your head, and two acoustic cellular foam pads attached to the low pressure adjustable headband system keep you out of the way. to feel like you have a pile of books on top of your head after an hour or two.

The KNS 6402 headphones are hardwired only and come with a heavy-duty 2.5M single-sided, oxygen-free copper replaceable cable with a 1/4 ″ jack that can be unscrewed to reveal a 1/8 ″ plug for laptops and portable media players. The speakers feature a high efficiency 40mm neodymium driver that gives the KNS 6402 a wide dynamic range with extremely consistent low distortion detail and clarity.

Tests and performances

While they look good, honestly, we weren’t expecting much from the KRK KNS 6402 Professional Studio Headphones at first glance. We were quickly reminded that you can’t judge a book by its cover!

As we used the headphones daily for a few weeks, listening to and mixing our recorded conversations and music in Adobe Audition, it became clear that while they didn’t look fancy like most top studio boxes. range we’ve tested or dated, the KNS 6402 has power where it counts. They are made for the job, and they do it well.

The switch from ordinary consumer headphones to the KNS 6402 made the difference in quality extremely clear during our editing and mixing. The KNS 6402 gave us a precise, natural and wide frequency response while providing low frequency definition without the usual consumer headphones reproducing in the bass of your music. This feature made our recordings more natural and easier to mix, and we appreciated the clarity produced by the KNS 6402.

As for comfort, we found the memory foam used in the pads and head pads to be soft, yet firm enough to last most of the day with occasional breaks. We especially liked the way the ear cups conformed to our ears and kept the sound. The swivel ear cups allowed the headphones to lay flat on our desk during a break or listen to sound from our studio monitors, and that feature made storage easier as well.

We’re used to most headphones being wireless these days, so we were initially disappointed that we had to use a wired connection with the KNS 6402. Again we had to eat a humble pie because the cable is great. That’s long enough for a home recording setup, and we love the twist and lock feature in the headphones. There is nothing more frustrating than unplugging during an editing session. Plus, the ability to unscrew the 1/4 “jack so you can use a 1/8” plug is incredibly handy – just make sure you keep the 1/4 “jack in the bag so you don’t lose it.

If you are looking for a pair of affordable professional closed box studio boxes, the KRK KNS 6402 headphones are a great choice. We are impressed with their level of comfort, sonic accuracy and reproduction. Although not designed for everyday consumer listening, the KNS 6402 headphones are a great addition to your audio production equipment and we highly recommend them, especially if you are on a budget.
