Who said Macs weren’t good for gaming? The M1 Macs seem to improve Apple’s reputation on this front, as the current M1 Max MacBook Pro computer configuration shows.

With Apple’s most powerful laptop driving a stunning 5K studio display, this player is in gaming heaven. And it digs screen sound too.

M1 Max MacBook Pro and Studio Display have fun with World of Warcraft

Redditor Ursureiks (“Urs”) laid out the setup in a post titled “I took a big step across the country and had to completely redo my setup.” He didn’t say what the old setup was, but the new one makes great use of Apple gear.

Urs runs a couple of M1 Macs — a 16-inch MacBook Pro M1 Max and a Mac mini — with a 27-inch Studio 5K display mounted on a Vivo arm.

” How [World of WarCraft] (WoW) do on Mac?” asked one commenter.

“I mean it’s not a super intensive game but it works great on the 5K screen,” Urs replied. “It’s the M1 Max though. I think you’ll be ok with that for WoW. If it’s worth mentioning, my previous Macs couldn’t handle big Civ 6 games and now it’s perfect .

While Macs aren’t widely considered great gaming machines, it’s hardly surprising that a MacBook with an M1 Max processor will handle the job, with its 10-core CPU and 32-core GPU as well as sufficient unified memory (32 GB to start, or you can order it with 64 GB).

Praise of Studio Display and its speakers

And without a doubt, the Studio Display makes the action look good, as Urs implies. Another reviewer said, “Finally saw the Studio Display at Best Buy today and it’s a beautiful monitor.”

“It definitely does,” Urs agreed. “I was hesitant to get one and couldn’t see it in person where I live. I decided to go and when it got here I knew I had made the right choice. Quality The speakers though, they have nothing to do with being so good lol.

Apple’s Studio Display is a Retina 5K display with 600 nits of brightness, support for one billion colors and a wide P3 color gamut. It packs a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera with Center Stage, a three-mic array for clear calls and recordings, and a six-speaker audio system with Spatial Audio.

With Urs enjoying the Studio Display’s speakers (and the MacBook’s speakers are no joke, by the way), it seems unlikely that he’ll use that JBL Bluetooth speaker much while sitting on the desk.
