Netflix has announced the construction of an in-house mobile game studio for Netflix Games in Helsinki, Finland.
Amir Rahimi, vice president of Netflix’s Game Studios, said in a Press release Monday that Finland is the perfect location for Netflix Games, as it is the birthplace of “some of the best gaming talent in the world”, such as angry Birds creator Rovio and Next Games. Netflix acquired the latter studio earlier this year.
The in-house games studio will be Netflix’s fourth studio, along with Next Games, Night School Studio and Boss Fight Entertainment, and it will be led by former Zynga co-founder and manager Marko Lastikka. The company said each studio will be tasked with developing games that cater to different tastes. However, his studio and his games will take time to build.
“We’re just getting started, and we still have a lot of work to do to deliver a great gaming experience on Netflix,” Rahimi said. “Making a game can take years, so I’m proud to see how we’re steadily building the foundations of our game studios in our first year, and I look forward to sharing what we produce in the years to come. “
Netflix Games was launched last year with the aim of breaking into the mobile games market. Its toy library has more than two dozen titles, including poinpy, before your eyes, Stranger Things: 1984, It’s a true story, In the breachand the League of Legends spin-off Hextech Mayhem. It aims to have 50 tiles by the end of the year.
