On November 29, Apple Music announced the winners of its annual Apple Music Award. Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar, Wizkid was named Artist of the Year (Africa), while The weekend was named Artist of the Year (worldwide). “Thanks to Apple Music for this award”, Wizkid talks about winning the prize. “It is a blessing to be able to do what I do, and I am proud to represent Africa.”
The other award winners are Aya Nakamura, who was Artist of the Year in France, Olivia rodrigo won three awards: Revolutionary Artist of the Year, Album of the Year (“SOUR”) and Song of the Year (“Driving license”), and multi-instrumentalist HER received the songwriter of the year award.

1. Nigeria: Adekunle Gold announces fourth studio album, ‘Catch Me If You Can’
After a stellar year, which saw three singles, “This is what it is”, “High” and “Sinner,” nigerian star, Adekunlé Gold announces his fourth studio album, “Catch Me If You Can,” due out on February 4, 2022.
Initially, the album was slated for release in the last week of October 2021, until Gold postponed the release for tactical reasons. The album will follow the Headies nominee “Afro Pop Vol. 1.” The album is released under Platoon and is now available for pre-order.
2. Rihanna honored by Barbados after officially removing Queen Elizabeth II from her post as head of state
Barbados honored the music star, Rihanna, with the prestigious Barbados National Hero Award. The award-winning music star was presented with honor by the President of Barbados, Dame Sandra mason. In presenting the award to the music star, the President congratulated her on all of her accomplishments.
Rihanna is Barbados’ 11th national hero. She is the second woman to receive this honor. This honor comes just after Barbados declared itself the world’s newest republic, as it abolished Queen elizabeth ii as head of state.
3. South Africa: Thuso Mbedu wins the palm at the Gotham Awards

Held on Tuesday at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City, the 31st Annual Gotham Awards honors independent films and is seen as a key indicator for independent films looking to race for the Oscars. “The Underground Railroad” Star Thuso Mbedu tied for outstanding performance in a new category with Ethan hawke in “The Good Lord Bird”.
The Amazon Prime Video series took advantage of its Twitter account to congratulate the South African actress on her great achievement.
4. Jack Dorsey steps down as CEO of Twitter

CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey has resigned as head of the social media platform he co-founded a decade and a half ago, the company said on Monday. Parag Agrawal, a member of the board of directors and former chief technology officer, has been appointed CEO with immediate effect, and Dorsey will remain on the board until his term expires at next year’s shareholders’ meeting, the company said.
Dorsey warned of the potential pitfalls when a business founder stays too long. Dorsey remains CEO of Square, his digital payments company. He is the only person who is the CEO of two public companies with market valuations exceeding $ 5 billion.
5. Ballon d’Or: Lionel Messi wins for the seventh time the prize for the best player in world football

Paris St-Germain and Argentina striker Lionel messi won the Ballon d’Or – awarded to the best footballer of the year – for the seventh time, a record. Messi, 34, helped his country win the Copa America, his first international honor, and scored 40 goals in 2021 – 28 for Barcelona, four for Paris St-Germain and eight for Argentina.
Bayern Munich and Poland striker Robert lewandowski came second, Chelsea and Italy midfielder Jorginho was third and the French striker from Real Madrid Karim Benzema finished fourth. Messi had already won the trophy more times than any other player and his seventh success comes after the victories of 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2019.
