Studio Ghibli’s Hayao Miyazaki comes out of retirement for new film – deadline


Famous anime director Hayao Miyazaki has revealed that he is coming out of retirement once again to direct an animated feature film.

In an interview with The New York Times, Miyazaki didn’t give many details about the film, but did mention that it was based on Genzaburo Yoshino’s 1937 book. How do you live? The story follows a teenage boy in Tokyo who moves in with his uncle after his father’s death. The novel would be one of the director’s favorites.

Miyazaki has not confirmed whether the film will have the same name as the book, but when asked why he is coming back to direct the film, he simply replied “Because I wanted to.” Studio Ghibli co-founder and producer Toshio Suzuki called the new film a “full-scale fantasy.”

Miyazaki retired several times during his career, the first in the late 1990s. However, a year later he returned to direct the Oscar-winning film Studio Ghibli in 2002. Abducted as if by magic.
