Studio Moss creates lasting impressions


When the pandemic interrupted special events and forced retailers to shut their doors, Suzanne Casler and Anna Gaseitsiwe rolled the dice and started a creative design firm specializing in brand activations, experiential settings, pop art- up and the facilities. “We took a risk, and things kind of turned in our favor,” says Casler, co-owner of Moss Studios.

After Casler was laid off from her commercial interior design job due to the impacts of COVID-19, she and Gaseitsiwe, a paper florist, embarked on a career path that fueled their creative passions. Since its launch, Studios Moss has amassed a bragging-worthy list of clients – the duo have created off-the-shelf concepts thriving in the social media space for Mall of America, Galleria, Walker Art Center and Cartier. For Casler and Gaseitsiwe, digital engagement is at the forefront of design. “We constantly ask ourselves, ‘Who is going to want to stand here and take a picture?’ says Casler. “Smartphone users and content creators are still our number one.”

Of course, being a young company also means being scrappy, and these ladies aren’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and get out the power tools. “We do everything,” says Casler. “We’re part of the whole process, from conceptualization to scavenging and creation, that’s what makes us happy.” Additional benefit? Casler’s husband, Michael, owns Holl Studio, a custom cabinetry and furniture company based in St. Paul, a match made in manufacturing heaven.

Some of their favorite projects to date include Walker Art Center’s Party In/The Garden, a stripped down 2021 version of the Avant Garden museum’s legacy event. Make no mistake: virtually nothing about the event decor can be described as pared-back. The women envisioned whimsical and modern elements throughout the venue, including a 16-foot tree with moss-covered tiles, a ceiling covered in 36-inch balloon spheres filled with colorful tissue paper, and encrusted resin swings of flora.

For Galleria, the ladies reinvented old Gabberts windows into a fashion display to spotlight local BIPOC artists and designers as part of 2020’s Black Fashion Week MN. And last February, they designed love lettersa facility for shoppers to write and send valentines to loved ones.

As for what’s next? This spring marks Moss Studios’ first-ever collaboration with MN Fashion Week — keep an eye out for a picnic-themed runway experience in partnership with local florist and entertainment service Sip’n Bloom.
