Two Pines Tattoo Studio offers professional experience

Two Pines Tattoo Studio, owned by local artist and Midland native Logan Fick, opened this month in the Midland Mall to offer body art in a clean, professional environment.

Fick said he wanted to open the studio specifically in the mall because of what he sees as its relative success despite the problems most American malls have.

Fick opted for the modernist design of Two Pines as he felt most tattoo shops looked alike and he wanted to add to the professional feeling of the Midland Mall. He said the mix of white with a wall of glass displays a sense of cleanliness, transparency and professionalism that sets Two Pines apart from its competitors.

Fick said the name “Two Pines” had a personal meaning based on his struggles in life.

Fick has six years of experience in the tattoo business, starting as an apprentice at Blackball Tattoo in Midland, then working as an artist at Drunken Monkey Tattoo in Saginaw.

“I spent my time at school drawing instead of doing homework,” Fick said. “There aren’t many careers left where you can be so expressive with your art, and luckily tattoos provide a career for a lot of artists.”

Fick chose to return to work in Midland because it is his hometown and offers him the opportunity to receive clients from all over the county.

He is currently the only artist at Two Pines, but is looking for other potential artists in the area to join his team.

“(I’m looking for) design-conscious people who care about being safe and respecting people’s bodies,” Fick said. “Someone who can understand the seriousness of permanently scarring someone’s body.”

Fick said he’s wanted to open his own business since he was a kid, as his family has a history of owning small businesses, dating back four generations.

“I lived in their back room as a kid watching the business and seeing the effect it has on the community and what you can do for your community,” Fick said.

Fick said the best way to book an appointment until he finds a receptionist is to message her directly on Instagram @loganficktattoos. Its most available hours are between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m.

The studio is located between Barnes and Noble and Spencer’s Gifts.
