Mississauga’s photo radar cameras were activated in the summer of 2021 and the city’s program is expanding. Here is some information you should know about Mississauga speed cameras, including their location.
Chronology
Mississauga Council approved the city’s Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) program as part of Budget 2020, with the initial launch date scheduled for September of that year.
City staff said delays related to the COVID-19 pandemic slowed down the deployment of the program.
May Ward County 9. Pat Saito successfully moved a motion to accelerate plans for more speed cameras in the city, increasing the program from two cameras to 22 by the end of 2021.
The City of Mississauga’s first two photo radar cameras became active on July 5 last year with housing in the Malton and Erin Mills areas.
City officials said they plan to activate the remaining 20 speed cameras by the end of 2021.
As of April 11, 2022, 17 out of 22 radars were activated.
Tickets
City staff estimated in 2020 that 22 photo radar units would generate 160,000 charges per year.
According to a press release from Mississauga, 495 speeding tickets came from the first two speed cameras, Morning Star Drive and Sawmill Valley Drive, which were in place from July 5 to the first week of August 2021.
In an emailed statement, city traffic safety supervisor Colin Patterson wrote that Mississauga photo radar cameras had issued 4,827 other speeding tickets between August and December 2021.
