Video: Testing the Continuity Camera with the Belkin iPhone MagSafe Mount

apple with macOS Ventura and iOS16 introduced a new feature called Continuity Camera, which is designed to allow you to use a iPhone as a webcam for your Mac. This is made possible by special mounts, and Apple has partnered with Belkin for an official Continuity Camera accessory.

Belkin’s ‌iPhone‌ Stand with MagSafe for Mac laptops is available from Apple for $30, though it’s out of stock until December and hard to get. This is the only official Continuity camera mount to date, although you may find knockoffs and other versions on Amazon.

Belkin’s stand basically attaches to an ‌iPhone‌ using ‌MagSafe‌, then a lip mount on the back unfolds. The stand fits just above the edge of a Mac laptop like a MacBook Pro or MacBook Air, and it puts the ‌iPhone‌ in the perfect position for capturing video.

You can use the mount in landscape or portrait orientation, with portrait showing slightly less of the background behind you. The camera automatically activates when your ‌iPhone‌ is mounted on your Mac and an app like FaceTime is open.

It’s a super simple accessory that’s probably overpriced, but works well. The ‌iPhone‌ camera is way better than what you get on a Mac, even Apple’s newer Macs, so it’s worth it if you do a lot of video calls.

The Continuity Camera has additional features such as Center Stage support to keep you in frame if you move, Portrait mode to blur the background, Studio Light to focus the light on you, and a view desktop that shows what’s on your desktop taking advantage of the Ultra Wide Camera.

You can also use the Belkin Stand as a kickstand for the ‌iPhone‌ when it’s not connected to the Mac, and it doubles as a PopSocket alternative.
