Wellfleet artist to exhibit in Newport

Laurie Warner, of Wellfleet, will be exhibiting her work as a guest artist at the Spring Bull Gallery, Newport, Rhode Island, for two months.

Warner lived in Newport and always visited his family there. She also reported on the America’s Cup as a professional photographer and co-published a souvenir magazine about the 1983 event. Now she shows up at her Wellfleet easel almost daily to paint coastal images.

The selection of works of art for this show offers the essence of this “city by the sea” between sailboats, dunes and oysters. A 24″x48″ gallery-wrapped painting titled “Ocean Drive Drama” depicts pounding waves hitting the rocky shore after a storm. Other paintings feature favorite local spots such as Ida Lewis Yacht Club in the morning and 2nd Beach in Middletown, including the surfer’s view of Hanging Rock.

Warner discovered the world of painting through his younger brother, also from Newport. In 2003, he suggested that she attend one of his outdoor painting classes during his summer family visit. She ended up with more paint on her than on the canvas, but was totally hooked and soon decided to change her artistic pursuits from her camera to the canvas. Before that, several careers had evolved, ranging from elementary school teacher, retail store owner, US communications director for an international skincare line, and professional freelance photographer with editorial assignments for events. international yachting, tennis and horse riding events. His images, known for their high precision with an artistic eye, have appeared in hundreds of publications and books.

Recent art workshops on Cape Cod have been with Joseph McGurl, Don Demers and William Davis. Galleries in Milwaukee, Salt Lake City, Banbridge Island & Carnation, Washington, Cape Cod, and Jupiter, Florida have exhibited and sold his paintings to collectors. For nine years, his website called Nouveau Art Gallery, hosted on Ruby Lane, sold paintings in the United States as well as internationally. Now she stays in touch by posting new pieces online at www.LaurieWarnerStudio.com.

His paintings will be on display and for sale through June 30 at Spring Bull Gallery, 55 Bellevue Ave., Newport, 401-849-9166 (across from Redwood Library). Hours are noon to 5 p.m., but closed on Tuesdays. His paintings will also be available at Wellfleet Vintage & Gifts in the former art barn on Main Street, Wellfleet.
