The local Wyvern Savings and Loans credit union celebrated its twenty-year opening this month.
They have been providing a safe place to save and affordable loans to people in Dorset and Somerset for twenty years.
During this period they have made over 7,600 individual loans and loaned over £ 5,000,000.
This directly helped the members, who saved a lot of money by paying off at rates much lower than those charged by home lenders or payday loans.
The money stayed in the local community and enabled the members to lead better lives.
Currently, the caisse has more than 3,500 active members who take advantage of the products and services offered.
Behind its success is a team of four dedicated staff and an army of volunteers – some of whom can be seen celebrating when Dorchester Mayor Richard Biggs cut the cake.
Cllr Biggs praised the volunteers for “providing a valuable service to their community”.
During the celebration, the founding members were able to catch up on everything that has happened since their debut in 1999.
They talked about success stories big and small. These include “the lady we helped escape the clutches of to lend sharks “;” a young woman we helped get on her feet financially “or” the guy who traveled to Yeovil and was tasked with cashing her weekly check before becoming a member … He was in consideration. ”
